I didn't scroll through the entire thread, so perhaps this has already been pointed out to you; that is a baby, which explains it's lack of fear. It isn't ill, it simply doesn't know to be fearful yet. You do need to phone a wildlife rehab specialist, if you haven't already, but do mention that the hawk is a chick. I'm also in New England and I've had great luck with the Audoban Society assisting me with similar wildlife "finds". Try calling the Audoban center in Topsfield, MA.

My guess is a juvenile Sharp-shined hawk (based on size & tail markings). Whoever guessed it may have escaped from a falconer is probably correct... there's no way a wild hawk would interact with humans... and definitely NOT with a cat. Possibly could be a Coopers, but it's difficult to tell by the photo (Cooper's is a bit larger than a Sharpie). GREAT photos... thanks for sharing!

THANK YOU for taking the time to PROPERLY remove/care for that raptor!
one of my pet peeves are people who think wild animals would make good pets ...even if it makes said wild animal(S) miserable.....!grrrrrrrrr.
we're all really looking forward to hearing how the little guy is .
