How intuitive are my girls? Learning the outdoor feeder

How intuitive are my 4 week old girls?

They spent most of the day out in their run for the first time today. ( Beautiful Seattle weather) I set up water and food for them in the outdoor feeders. I also threw some crumble several times during the day on the ground which they appear to have eaten....but when I finally rounded them up to go into their coop for the night they made a " bee-line" to the indoor feeder where they all ate for a bit. Which makes me think they did not get enough crumble during the day.

What else should I be going to get them use to the outdoor feeders?

Did you throw the crumble on the ground around the feeders? Sort of like "breadcrumbs" to lead them to the jackpot?

It could be also that they were too excited to be outside that they didn't think too much about eating until they got back to boring old "home".
