Those are two different things. Your birds should be weaned from their heat lamp around one month. (Wait a little longer if you have bantams.) Depending on the method you plan on using, you should start introducing around 8-12 weeks.

all i have are bantams

Week 1 I gave mine 24/7 heat.
Week 2 I moved the lamp higher
Week 3 I only gave them heat on two cold nights
Week 4 they went in the coop
