Nice basket of eggs. And so clean too. Have they been washed, or are they clean like that when you pull them from the nest?

My girls finished their egg laying duties by 9am. Seven eggs from the Magnificent Seven today.

I pulled 5 eggs from underneath one of the chickens that was sitting in the nest at 8am. Then 2 more were in the nest at 9.

Martha is still using the middle nesting box for brooding. The last couple days I haven't found one egg in either the right-hand or left-hand box. Instead I am finding them under the A-frame roost, and yesterday I found one in the middle of the run.

I didn't see any under the roost on Tuesday but when I rummaged around in the straw I discovered one. I got my leaf rake out and very gently raked the straw out to see if any more eggs were hiding, nope.

I hard-boiled most of my stash, and made more pickled eggs!

The eggs are usually very clean as I collect them several times a day.

I don't wash the eggs and any muddy eggs after a long spell of nasty weather will get cooked and served to chickens and dogs. They love it.

I’ve decided to order some chicks to arrive in June. At this point most breeds I wanted are sold out until autumn, but as long as I can get another Welsummer and Dominique I’ll be happy.
