whenever i buy a thermometer, i look at all the other thermometers on the shelf. usually they read within 4 degrees of each other which i would probably say is correct temp ± 2 degrees. i buy one that resides in the middle.
this probably doesn't help you much, but you may be able to go hang out in a store with a lot of thermometers long enough to see if yours fits in the range.
