how to tame a rooster

No, that's not a single comb. A single comb doesn't mean that others have more than one... its a style, if you will, of comb. This is a Rhode Island Red, with a single comb.

ETA, you can also see (kinda) that he has bright yellow legs, another RIR trait.

Huh... I wonder what he is, then. I'm very new to chickens and can't really tell one from the other without someone telling me what to look for. He does have very bright, yellow legs when they aren't caked in mud.

Pop a couple pics of him up on the breed/gender board. You'll get some good opinions. I'm learning still myself, but I've learned a lot on this site since I joined back in May. I've got my first flock too, but I'd raised them from chicks. I've learned a lot about care and breeding (hatchery vs breeder) chickens...

Siracha sauce is the key! Let your rooster roost before it gets dark. So he's relaxed. Now get some cheap leather gloves. The kind at home depot will work. Then put a generous amount of sauce on the index finger of the glove and hold it an inch or two from his beak. He will peck at it and get a taste of that hot sauce. Of course this will be yuks to him and he will learn not to peak at the boss! Do this for a week or two and he will "become" tamed. No joke! it worked for me. Long live the rooster!
