Hi all,

I got 6 Light Sussex eggs and due to fault of my own lost all but 1 egg.

I made a mistake and got 6 Cream Legbar eggs as well and now my light Sussex is on day 16 and nearly at Lockdown. The cream legbars are on day 5

What should I do about humidity? Should I increase it to what it needs to be for the Sussex and run the risk of drowning the other eggs? Or should I not increase the humidity and risk the Sussex being shrink wrapped?

Another idea is that I have a cheap eBay incubator. Would it be worth transferring the Sussex into that and keeping humidity where it needs to be? Bearing in mind the temperature can fluctuate and I need to open it to add more water?
If anyone has suggestions that would be great

Thanks in advance

You can split the difference, the most critical time is at hatch. When you see a pip increase the humidity at that time just long enough for the chick to hatch. Keep in mind one line chick is going to be lonely and needy. Is it possible to find it a friend?

In what sense do you mean split the difference?

I apologise for the misunderstanding I am new to this whole hatching process.

Also we are talking to a breeder about being able to socialise it with chick's that are also about to hatch of theirs.

Leave the humidity for now, when you see that it has pipped increase humidity until after the chick hatches, then reduce to whatever you have it at now. The most critical time for humidity is when the chick is hatching, that inner membrane can dry out and shrink wrap the chick, preventing it from being able to turn and zip the egg open.

It is this one

Ok cheers mate. Will this bring much risk to the 6 legbar eggs?

Shouldn’t bother them at all, it’s for a short period of time. Just monitor the air cells during the rest of the hatch to make sure they grow as required. My rooster was hatched by a duck, more humidity over a longer period of time and he’s just fine! Also, no need to worry about opening the incubator to add water. Don’t dawdle while doing it, but opening the lid is fine.
