Ok, so for scientific purposes, I stuck my hygrometer probe under my brooding Cochin. Humidity was 60%. Just thought this was interesting info. :0)

My first broody of the year apparently needed a water pan under her ... she had two chicks die in the egg because they were shrink wrapped. I had never seen that happen under a broody.

60% huh? Makes you wonder about the standard humidity in the incubator. Wonder what it goes up to during hatch?

The eggs are due to hatch on the 24th of this month. All 4 are fertile. I will keep on checking humidity throughout the incubation period. :0)

I've heard that if the hen thinks that the eggs need to have more humidity they go and dip their stomachs in water and go back and sit on them.
