& start bringing home full-grown birds & throwing them (unquarantined) into their flock.

OK, just when I had resigned myself to waiting until spring and picking from what Ideal offers (because it's cheap, and I can drive there, and they should have 2 of the 5 remaining types I "need") - one of the breeders I had contacted got back to me saying she'll have sexed Blue/Black/Splash Ameraucana 2month old for sale in about a month. Perfect, because my own chicks are just over 3weeks old, and I've heard it's easier to integrate similarly sized birds (i will quarantine, of course)! Now, let's keep our fingers crossed she doesn't ask an arm and a leg for them. Husband was astounded I was seriously considering paying over $200 to get one hen. It was a momentary lapse of sanity

We just bought a house and we're planning on having a baby soon, so there will be no expensive chickens in this house! (Unless someone wants to get me them for Christmas/birthday/college graduation
