My two 4.5 month old baby roos have left. Beyonce, who was lower on the pecking order than his brother Bronty, just started crowing last week. On Monday morning he was around like normal, came down to eat some feed and everything. But after that I haven't seen him.

Then today his brother Bronty, who has been crowing for a few weeks didn't come around. He has been trying to gain some kind of dominance lately. One time last week he even tried to mount his mom Casino. She was not happy. And just yesterday afternoon he came at me one time. He's also been trying to show food to imaginary girlfriends. Everytime I drop some blueberries or some other treat for him he does the rooster thing and picks it up and drops it. But he doesn't have any hens to show it to. Eventually he eats it himself. He's also been chasing another hen around sometimes. Head rooster Emilio generally comes to that hen's rescue and Bronty backs off.

I miss them, but I guess it was inevitable. They couldn't stay together forever with them both being boys. They were still hanging around together up to the last day I saw Beyonce. But he started crowing right after Bronty would crow and I guess that was a sign he had to go. There was no fighting or anything. A few times I saw both of them chase after a hen at the same time.

People say wild roosters fight to the death, but I think they just had to go to a new area to have their own territory. At least I will continue to believe it. I guess they need to find a place where they can have their own flock.

At least I still have my girl Casino. She just laid 5 eggs, her first batch since she had Beyonce and Bronty. I took them and replaced them with some rocks. Yesterday she started sitting on them in earnest. Today she didn't come out at all. I'm not sure, but she might have one egg under there.
