I bought baskets at the dollar store. It had a solid bottom, so I drilled ventilation holes. The sides were latticed. I used 2 baskets. We used hardware cloth tented over the basket on 2, and left 2 open sections open. We staggered, tent, open, tent, open. Everybody stayed in their own space. It took a few attempts to get the hoop low enough to allow us to close the incubator. The fans have a cover, so the wire didn't affect them.I bought 3 of them, intending to use them as nest boxes. Not only will they not fit where I wanted to use them, but with only 4" sides they won't contain chicks for very long. Plenty enough ventilation, though; designed like 1"x2" welded wire. May have a different style where you are.
That is very true. But all my silkies that have hatched from our grey/black silkie roos and white hens have been silver, grey, brown or black as babies. I just had a YELLOW one hatch. So, I'm thinking the white roo tagged at least 1 white hen. But it could have been a cross between my EE roo, and my BO hen.Maybe he goes after the roos when you ain't watching as well
