I did it 30 minutes at a time, about 15 minutes of natural release. He was a big boy 2&1/2 yrs half CX
Imagine how long he would have taken by any other method of cooking! For a young cockerel, 30 min is good. For stewing birds, I just cut up and cook in 2 cups of water for 30 min. and like you if it is not done yet, do it again! Sometimes if it is an old bird a long time in the crock pot might be easier to check on. In mile high Prescott, some things never seem to get tender unless I use the pressure cooker!
I usually do cut up younger birds and flour the pieces and fry them until a little browned, then pressure cook. Good gravy that way, except my husband has to stay away from too much (greasy) gravy now, as we have gotten older. Now, I mostly drain the fat and use it sparingly on oven fried potatoes.
