Iowa Blue Chickens - Understanding The Traditional Type

Thank you :). Theyre coming along nicely. Here is a picture of my new cockerel. His wings arent as tight as I'd to see
400
but I think thatll improve with age.

Below is a show that should host a nice number of Iowa Blues for anyone interested in checking it out! Typically we have a club meeting sometime during the show. There will be lots to learn!

This should also help minimize the loss of any birds due to theft. If there should be an incidence of theft, the show management will commence lock-down and inspection measures to locate said bird. Please know that we value all of our exhibitors and want each and every one to have an enjoyable experience at this show. We feel that this rule (request) is in the best interest of our exhibitors as a whole. For inclement weather with long travel distances, special arrangements will be considered. Thank you for your cooperation.

Junior Activities
Must have at least one bird entered into the Junior Show in order to participate in our Junior competitions. Contests are APA-ABA sanctioned events. Contact the Iowa Youth APA-ABA leader, Angela Harger at [email protected] or 319-693-3444. Thank you to Mark Peterson for agreeing to judge these new events for our show!
Jr Judging Contest
Report to the Youth table at 9:00 am Saturday. Rules will be posted at the Youth table.
Jr Showmanship
Open to all Junior Show exhibitors. Entrants will be divided into age groups, and will present one bird (chickens recommended) to our showmanship judge. They will answer a panel of questions based on general poultry and breed-specific knowledge. The judge will score entrants based on their: appearance, bird’s condition, knowledge and presentation skills. This is an APA/ABA Youth Program sanctioned showmanship event, and showmanship points will be awarded to APA/ABA Youth Program members who participate. Awards will be given in each age category.

If anyone is interested in showing Iowa Blues (or any breed for that matter) at this show, please feel free to reach out to the EIPA Secretary or myself and we can get you a sign up sheet!

I have 7 IBs I hatched out about 5 weeks ago. I'm happy to see an SP cockerel in the group. I have what I think will be 2 SP hens as well. The rest are dark birchen-like colors. Looks like I only have a total of two cockerels all together.

Correction re: age, they hatched on 9/13-14

Congrats on the successful hatch Dan! You'll have to get us some pics so we can check them out. :)

Can someone provide directions to the IB statue? Might be a good photo op again for those of us who were not able to attend the dedication but will be in Iowa City for the show. I want to see trish in a chaps and a cowboy hat riding that! LOL

Actually I'd like to plan a trip over to the statue after the birds are released on Sunday so those of us with birds can pose with them :) It's pretty easy to find, right off Interstate 80, just west of where the show is held.
