Is this maran a rooster?

This is coco my what is supposed to be a black copper maran but is chocolate colored (hence the name) is it a rooster or hen. It is 8 weeks old and bigger than the other two chicks.

That is certainly a lot of comb/wattle for the age - but to really offer an answer we would need to see a full body shot - especially since breed also seems to be somewhat in question.

Here's my Black Copper Maran's cockeral




A week older





For comparison is his sister.




You can see a difference in the comb and wattle development. I could not photograph the tail of the cockeral as this quad is timid and is easily spooked. The cockeral tail will have a greenish sheen and be slightly longer at this age.

Thanks for the reply it looks like my Maran is a cockerel too. Do you know what they look like when full grown?
