Greetings from Kentucky. I am reading all the threads that I can find on the colors and patterns of isabel and porcelain silkies. I am also trying to learn the language shared with silkie collectors. Are these colors splits?

the isabel is a buff/lavender split
the porcelain is a blue/buff/lavender split

right? or wrong? Am I confused with the meaning of split?

No, they are not Split of anything, they are the most homozygous of all terms, as lavender is recessive it needs two copies of the gene and to get a fully buff bird you will also require the genes required for buff to be homozygous, in genetic terms Split means Heterozygous for a certain gene or genes.. for example, when people say, yeah I have a black silkie but she is split for lavender, that means that while the silkie is all black is hiding or is Split for lavender.. mostly Split is used for recessive genes..
