Hi guys, so I bought some chicks from Tractor Supply they were labeled pullets. I bought 10 all together in 2’s. They’re going to be 4 weeks in a couple days and one of my Lavender Orpington comb is coming in bigger then the other one as well as my Cuckoo Maran one comb looks different then the other. So wondering can you tell me do I have Cockerel’s. They said they were pullets on labels s I’m starting to second guess. first 5 pic are of the questionable one? The next 4 are one that her tail and comb are different if LO and I think is a pullet last one are I believe is my Cuckoo Maran. I also bought olive eggers so it may be the olive egger but whichever one it’s is its comb is different then the 2nd one. They don’t act like cockerel they run and stay low they don’t stand tall and their behavior is like the other 8. Wishful thinking maybe lol

The Orp in the first few pictures is a cockerel. The other looks fine for a pullet. The Marans is a cockerel as well. He looks double barred, which shows in the broader white lines and gives an overall lighter color than pullets will have.
I thought so! I wonder what TS return policy is 😂. I think it’s only 10 days on live chicks lol! My hubby said I thought we bought girls why do these two look like they’re males. I thought S**t he noticed it to. So that explains why these two are only ones missing feathers they both have plucked tails and some feathers missing on chest and their back and wings.

Vent sexing is only 90% accurate at best.

Unless you buy sexlinks, it's expected and normal to have 10% of random chicks from a batch of pullets turn out to be male. 🤷‍♀️

Hatcheries often offer refunds for cockerels above 10%, but I don't think that farm stores ever offer any refunds or returns.

It's because there is no chance of a bird developing gender specific characteristics in 10 days.

If TSC accepted returned cockerels they'd go broke.

I hear the vent sexing is 90% accurate and just don't buy it. Especially when the hatcheries know they are going to a feed store.

"Time to load out some of those males that we have absolutely zero use for now boys! Stuff them in!"

Craigslist is always LOADED with people trying to unload cockerels. One poor sole here ended up with 5 cockerels and one pullet from a Rural King sexed bin

I agree they would have so many Roos if they allowed returns. I bought 14 so I’m glad I only got 2 out of 14. So I will count my blessing I’m not like that person that got 5 poor thing lol!
My friend doesn’t have a rooster in her flock so she said she will take one and my brothers friend will take the other since I have 3 already!
It really is a hit or a miss!
