laying issue

It is probable that IF you let her out of the cage, she will lay somewhere she wants to lay, and go broody ~ Murphy's Law in fell effect

You can't get her to stop laying, just like some chicken hens will go broody even if they have no eggs to sit on.

Thanks for the info on the high nest guys! That takes a big load off, I was worried. Last year she laid her eggs on a high shelf (not quite as high as where she is now) and we rented a scaffold and set it up next to the shelves, so we could help her and the babies down without dying in the process....after all that, the eggs didn't hatch

It was a bit extreme (renting the scaffold) but it was reasonably priced and worth it for the peace of mind, I guess. i'd be happy If she didn't go broody actually..we don't want any more than the four we have.
