Im assuming because of the waddle and comb size. Girls waddles tend to be so small you almost often cant even see them. At least this is what I am told and from what Ive seen... But Im by no means a silkie expert... I only have 4 and only one Im pretty certain is a Male:

Got another one the other day. This is Henry my rescue rooster.
He was almost featherless when i got him:

Image quality isn't great i know.

Now Henry gives stink eyes as a sign of his appreciation to my saving his life
