Hello all. From West Babylon here.
Anyone out there could digest Babylon Town ordinance on raising backyard chicken in a way I can understand please? Lol
There's a 100 ft from any dwelling but if I follow that, my future Coop will be in the middle of the street. Does that mean I can't raise any chicken? My coop would be on the back of my backyard and my neighbors houses are definetely less than 100 ft from the coop. Anyone out there from West Babylon that could help me understand this ordinance, please?

I’m in the same boat here I just got served with a notice that I have to get rid of my chickens I’m looking to file some petition with signatures I know this forum was years ago but is there any other info you can offer ? Anything is greatly appreciated thank you !

I'm not a West Babylon resident but I read/interpret codes as part of my job quite often...They may ask for your cross streets or home address to determine the answer or your residential zone. That is up to you if you want to provide personal info or just ask a general question. They may allow it under your Residence district Zone due to smaller lot sizes etc. but otherwise you might not be able to due to that minimum distance of 100 feet. Seems silly and codes are always tricky/circumlocutory, for legal reasons. You might also ask "what if its only 10 birds" or whatever, maybe they are not that strict (assuming you're doing that small number). I would try to ask around and scout out if anyone in the neighborhood has a coop and ask them. If the code was written a very long time ago, and there are more people getting into this currently, you might want to search the BYC forums on how to fight to change the code.

I’m currently looking up info on how to fight this code 106-12 that’s from about 10 years ago idk where to start or even search how to fight this code I have 16 laying hens all contained in a 18/26ft run I’ve had them for about 5 years now any info is appreciated I’m in west babylon as well thank you in advance !
