GOOD MORNING CENTRAL LOUISIANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

Happy Fourth Louisiana laying faithful,

I'm new to BYC both online and in real life. We have just recently decided purchase a few Buff Orpingtons and we are trying to find the best way to proceed. We want a few day old chicks for the kids to be able to see grow and take care of. What is the best way of going about that? Craigslist? Online with a 40+ dollar shipping fee? Anyway. I was glad to find a forum of like minded folks to share the experience with. Thanks for any replies,

Anthony

P.S. we are near Shreveport LA

I got my first at a local feed store but the three bantam cochins I just got were from a lady on this site in Leesville. Most of the ones at the feed store are usually a week or two old but my bantams were only 3 days old. My advice would to be to search on here and ask around for a local breeder. I'm fairly new too but it was really easy once I found what I was looking for.

Good morning!
It's a holiday known for parties, bbq's, family picnics, fireworks & travel.
5 years ago today my lil brother died slowly in a wicked car accident. He was 23 years old. Amazing man with extraordinary intelligence. Even with all of his smarts he decided to leave a BBQ to go to a party with a designated driver...who had had LESS to drink than him. Doesn't mean its safe. A slight miscalculation in driving lead to a painfully long death. I need not sympathy, I share because I work downtown in the heart of the Capital city and every night I watch people pour outta the bars drunk out of their minds, get in their cars, fumble for money to pay to park-spill their beers (yes in their laps of the drivers seats) break gates, hit the gas quick instead of the break to stop and pay a parking fee, bump poles and most stumble around looking for "lost or stolen cars" before finding it...then they get in the car with their friends, wives, husbands and drive home to who knows where on our roads that we have to take home after a 12 hour shift. 300+ people a night, wasted, leaving in their cars to go home...holidays are so many more 800+ in just my area :(
I put this out there not to preach, but to tell people just don't frickin do it. Stay put if you get wasted or call a cab. Recent studies have shown designated drivers are usually "less" drunk so they drive :/

Please be safe tonight, watch out for the people that don't care and feel free to party hard! Just don't think you'll get home just fine please, you may very well...but its "the other" guy. Don't drink and drive. Period.

Be safe, enjoy the shows tonight and remember why we are celebrating this beautiful day :)

Thanks. I am also in the capital city. I generally try to stay off the streets at night for that reason.

and the La-yers thread too.

I know where "Hessma" is LOL (Avoyelles parish pronunciation/quite unique even from the other southern French speaking parts of La.) I used to live in Simmesport right in the same vicinity, different part of the state for sure, that area, I loved it too.

The show tonight on the river should be Epic :) I believe the new casino will do a show too... I will be in crowd control lmao...100lb me with a light saber O.O bahahaha
As far as chickens! My girls and chicks are doin great on the FF and I have been doing ok keeping up so far. Soon the roo chicks will have a new home so there will be a few less mouths to feed. My simple bucket/add water/add feed has been really simple. I only wish I could PRE make batches.. I wonder if it could be frozen and fed in blocks during the heat...hmmmm ill ask on the meaties ff thread.

I think 2 of the girls are molting, slowly! No bald spots...but chunks of feathers here n there, pale combs, not wanting to be pet (usually run over) and totally fricken slacking in the egg dept! They're young so I think its their 1st molt. Having only a few hens at a time molt and go on strike (heat last week I only got 1 egg a day! Lol but they're happy and made it thru a bad heatwave :( so I'm thankful still). Makes for having to consider going to BUY a dozen or MORE if they keep this up. Maaaaan. I'm waiting til we run out-out but we go thru them regularly so we shall be waiting impatiently.

I want to start building a small 2nd coop for the pair of pullets I have(hopefully lol). They're hitting 5 weeks this weekend, weather's been warm, they've been free ranging the small gardens for the last week for a few hours a day to get used to it lol so sweet to watch the babies discover...
I have tons of recycled material, tools, some hardware, pallets, room & a pressing brood of chicks that literally grow in front of my eyes lol...but NO TIME! Ug how do ya'll super women do it?! I applaud your beautiful coops, runs, breeding projects & living life too! *I skim pics constantly for ideas/motivation* :)

Sadly, I can relate. Lost my brother as well in a crash many years ago. My prayers go out to you. And I worked 12 hour shifts downtown for years too and know all too well about the drunks roaming around down there.
