March 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Whether they're going to be good at brooding or not doesn't seem to have anything to do with age in my experience! It's a personality thing. This broody is less than 1 year old and she's doing fantastic with her chicks that are over a month old now!

Good! I think we are going to order the eggs that I linkes in an eaelier post. We got her to sit on pool balls to try and keep her broody.

The 2 that hatched last night are in the brooder now & I have 2 more hatched 11 left with 1-2 pipped already

View attachment 3034189This little guy was pip side down with yellow yolk spilling out. Anyone been through this? The missing shell was done by me after he was found. I’m worried he ruptured yolk before absorbing. I’ll keep updates coming if anyone interested, but don’t want to takeaway from all the cuteness going on for you all!

I've been out of the loop on this hatchalong. Was this egg in the incubator? Under a broody hen? How did it happen? I've never had a chick pip through yolk but that's not to say it's impossible. Is there any chance that the humidity was too high through incubation and what you were seeing is fluid from inside the egg rather than yolk? Fingers crossed this little one pulls through for you!

It was just a regular still air incubation. Seemed like a normal pip this morning, and then a few chicks were rocking eggs around and he was pip side down. Humidity is between 50-60% but it could be fluid. I’ve just never seen it this yellow before. He’s still breathing through the little hole. Time will tell I guess, not much that can be done.
It is really nice to be able to share all these things: highs and lows. Thanks to all of you sharing your hatches too!
