It WAS an oil gland infection. The dosage info you give must be right. I started off giving her about 50mg 2x/day, but it seemed to be a back and forth battle between the medicine and the infection. I kept increasing the dose about 10 mg at a time. Ended up at 125 mg 2x/day as the dose that knocked it out. At about 5.5 lbs or 2.5 kg, that's 50 mg/kg. I suppose the bacteria might not be very susceptible to that antibiotic. I need to stock the antibiotic medicine chest. The medicine tasted AWFUL (got some on my mouth- don't ask), and I felt horrible forcing it down her (she caught on to the jelly doughnut method.) But, I stuck with it and the swelling of the tail went down dramatically and is back to a nice, pale beige. Happy chicken, happy mom.
