Missing back feathers

a friend of mine has chickens missing feathers all over their back, solid bare skin. Its not treading, cause the rooster is missing them too. no mites, combs and wattles are bright. They are not picking. is this molting?

It very well could be molting if it's not the rooster's fault and your friend is certain that nobody is picking.
