We are definitely not new to chickens. We started with just a few and then began trying different breeds. Our local farm store offered a variety of different breeds. We have our favorites.

We currently have about 30 birds, one pen has a barnyard mixture, another has Sapphire Gems, and another with Speckled Sussix.

Raising backyard chickens is a great hobby. We are actually moving into producing birds for future consumption and sales. We are pleased with not having to buy eggs from the grocery store, and are looking forward to organically growing birds that will be pasture fed and maybe someday we will sell them.

One thing that I really enjoy is learning to automate some of the daily tasks that will make raising chickens a little more efficient. Figuring out an automatic watering system for example.

Upscaling our bird production and finding some income possibilites was actually my sons idea. He and his family live on our ranch and we have grandkids that love the animals. We also produce an amazing garden every year, and do hydroponic gardening that gives us fresh greens year round.

Thanks for allowing us to join your group. We look forward to getting to know others who share our passion for raising chickens.
