Mixing breeds into the flock

After losing my fluffy LO I am looking to add perhaps two new girls. I currently have I believe a Cream Legbar who is a bit fussy/bossy, a Cinnamon Queen and we think a Sapphire Olive Egger.
Thinking of adding a RIR, and a Golden Laced Wyandotte or EE. Looking for good egg layers, able to stand our crazy Colorado temperatures (80-90’s today and 30-40’s Friday) preferably no large breeds. Able to assimilate into the current group. Suggestions?

Options available from my local breeder are:
Andalusian
Barnevelder
Easter Egger
French Wheaten Marans
Gold Laced Wyandotte
Rhode Island Red
Russian Orloffs
Salmon Favorelle
Sapphire Olive Egger
Speckled Sussex

My current little backyard flock.

I’ve got RIR and they aren’t jerks at all. Everyone always poo poos on RIR but my girls are the best. They all have personality and even my 2 young boys get along with them very well. Don’t count RIR’s out, just get them use to you - just like you would other birds and they will be loyal like the day is long!
For the record we’ve got RIR, Barred Rocks & Buffs. Wouldn’t trade my RIR girls for anything!

Going to introduce my speckled Sussex rooster with a barred rock hen … anybody ever seen or know colors that come out ????

I really like Favorelles, but they are more timid, and a poor choice with RIRs or red sex links in general, at least here. Sussex hens are favorites! Very interactive and pretty. French Marans and EEs will add interesting egg colors, and are very nice birds too.
Barnvelders are fine, and I do like Wyandottes also. So many choices! Try a few new birds, and see who you like.

You will get black sex links. The boy chicks will have a white head spot and grow to be barred and the girl chicks will be all black when hatched. The girls will grow to be mostly black with some color usually showing on their breast.

I believe you only get black sex-links if the female is barred and male is solid. I had a barred rooster and all of his offspring had headspots, both males & females.
