I just wanted to ask if anyone knows if a mother hen will take care of her baby, even if the baby grows bigger than her?

What I meant is will she peck her like any other chicken?Whilst it varies, a momma will usually wean her chicks way before such a situation occurs. Mine seem to give it about 6 weeks before leaving their chicks to their own devices.
Does this mean that when the chickens begins laying, that the chick can become higher in the rankings?Regardless of size, the mother hen will hold a higher rank within the flock than her chick (or any younger chicken) - at least until the chick begins laying.
