Muscovy ducks that don’t roost

Hello!

Just wanted to share with you all my beautiful Muscovies and an interesting fact about them.

I recently learned, thanks to you all, that Muscovy ducks are supposed to roost. However, I’ve owned a bunch of them and they have never been inclined to roost or nest in trees. On the contrary, they always seemed comfortable by just staying on the ground. I was shocked to see that other folks have had a different experience with them. Their enclosure is under a giant avocado tree, but they ignore it completely. Maybe could be the fact that we have no predators in our area or maybe mines have always been broken. Haha.

My Muscovy always slept in their coops on shaving until I got chickens once they moved in and I put up roosts then my Muscovy females thought it was fun to roost. My drake never slept on the roost but he’d get up on one in the mornings like he was saying good morning to his girls.

What I found is the females will roost given a suitable perch. The males tended to stay on the ground.

Mine usually don't when they're adults, at least not the males. They have enough of a time moving those big butts of theirs around!
