Sorry for your loss.

Pasty butt is deadly fast.. and is the first thing to check (after food and water consumption) when shipped chicks start slowing down. It will cause sepsis and total organ failure.

Many will claim Pasty butt is from overheating in the brooder.. total BS.. it can happen to any chick (even under a broody) and is especially easy to miss in large brood sizes.

Thank you for the info! I will continue to keep a sharp eye on the others for any signs of illness. From the looks of it, the large amount of poop in the brooder and me actively watching them pooping for around 3-4 hours a day in intervals, the rest of the babies seem to be doing fine. I guess I just missed the early signs in that poor little girl. What do you suggest for preventing pasty butt?
