Hey all,

New to BYC. Figured this would be a good place to show off the coop I build for my new flock out here in Chicago, IL.

I got inspiration for my coop from a play house I used to regularly drive past as a kid that was intentionally built to look crooked and wonky. That idea was stuck in my head when it came time to build. Being handy/artsy I decided to build a coop with a similar style from scratch (no plans or drawings either).

Here's a bunch of pictures of the building process:

I used a 42" × 42" pallet as my base. (That's my girlfriend and her dog, Bear)

Plywood sides finished!

Nesting box started!

My downstairs neighbor is a children's book author and performs children's shows (Ms. Jamie From The Farm) loves the coop!

Thank you all for the kind words and love! For those of you with children, my neighbor featured in the most recent update does have a children's book and CD available on Amazon.com. I do not gain anything from spreading the word of her business but some of you may be interested since her creations have a valuable message for children (and the songs don't get old like some kids songs do [see: "let it go" from Frozen lol])

Here is a link for those who are interested:

Not that I'm a fan of soliciting sales, but if it weren't for her and her line of work giving me some inspiration, I may not have built my coop or gotten my flock!

And again, thank you all! :)
