K what is the dose for 5.5 lb duck? if you don't mind answering here.

Quote: In her PM to me, she said the dose that her vet told her to give her 5.5 pound duck was 1.1ml of the 2.27% stuff.

If one was giving a 5.5 pound bird 1.1 ml (25 mg) of the 2.27% stuff, that's 10mg/kg. If one wants to give the same dose in mg, the amount of the 10% is 0.25ml.

This is the math is use to calculate doses:

Weight of bird in pounds, divide by 2.2 (that converts pounds to kg), times desired number of mg/kg (in this case it's 10) divide by number of mg per ml (either 22.7 or 100 for Baytril). The answer is the number of ml's to give.

2.27% looks like: 5.5 / 2.2 x 10 / 22.7 = 1.1ml
10% looks like: 5.5 / 2.2 x 10 / 100 = 0.25ml

The dose the vet recommended is well within the "normal" range.

1 ml of the 2.27% stuff is equal to 0.227ml of the 10% stuff, both have 22.7mg of Baytril.
1.1 ml of the 2.27% stuff is equal to 0.25ml of the 10% stuff, both have 25mg of Baytril.

@kari1981 , did your vet say to give it once or twice a day? Just curious.

I have used Baytil tablets, but have not seen any that are 250mg. Are you sure they're 250? Might they be 25mg?

Nope went and got the bottle to make sure I gave you the right dosage and it says 250mg I bought them from Twin City Poultry because when I looked up Baytril a couple years ago they were who came up selling it.
