Thank you for that information. I have my coop 2 feet off the ground. As soon as the rain stops I’ll be adding my 1/2” hardware cloth on the run walls and a two foot predator apron around the entire area. I also have a cover to put over the top of the run… over the hardware cloth. The coop does have a solid floor and plenty of ventilation. I have been lurking these forums for a few months to learn before I got my chicks. Thanks to all of you nice folks I feel better about this first set.Welcome neighbor to the north. Since you are starting with a small flock, I am assuming you don't want to take any chances with predators, I would raise the coop floor at least 18-24 inches and have a solid floor and use dirt with pine pellets (no chemicals), in the run. I would also have 1/2 inch hardware cloth for the walls and top of the run, with a predator apron.
Thank you. Reading these forums for the past couple of months made me feel a little more confident and helped me take the plunge.Glad you didn't wait forever, welcome!
