Hi!
I'm in Albuquerque, NM, where a lot of people have backyard chickens. Some are even free range front yard chickens with no fences, resting in the shade with the dogs. Of course we have the folks with coops that are fancier than my house, too. I have wanted chickens forever and have five books about how to raise them...
So last week I went into Dan's Boots and Saddles to get a new pair of boots and they happened to have a big bin of newly hatched chicks. A sign above said "Please Do Not Handle the Chicks." Well, I knew I wasn't gonna leave there without handling those little fluff balls, so I bought three of them: a dark Brahma, a Rhode Island Red and a Buff Orpington.
Since I have a few animals (haha) already, I figured my husband would kill me. But, good man that he is, he went right to work building a coop. The run part is done, so now I'm reviewing coop plans. These guys (girls, hopefully) are only a week or so old, so it will be awhile. I took them outside in the sun today and they run after me everywhere, which is pretty cute.
I have a lot of questions, so will head to the forum and read and read and read.
Jill
