Hello!!
Built new 8x6 coop for 2nd flock (13 - 3mo olds). It's been life changing compared to an old 6 chicken pre-fab house! I can now customize as needed/wanted. I'm looking for advice on base floor of coop. It's T1-11 base floor that's been primed for sustainability. I was thinking of adding some linoleum or similar flooring for easy clean up.... Any thoughts on that?
AND what's the big difference from shavings, sand, straw, etc. for such a size coop?? I hear too many conflicting differences. I'm used to using shavings in the old small house, but this is way bigger....

All ideas & thoughts are welcomed!!

I used a single sheet of good heavy duty foam backed vinyl,
it's held up fine for 5 years now.

What kind of bedding you use may depend on how you manage the manure.
This is about cleaning, but covers my big picture

-I use poop boards under roosts with thin(<1/2") layer of sand/PDZ mix, sifted daily(takes 5-10mins) into bucket going to friends compost.

-Scrape big or wet poops off roost and ramps as needed.

-Pine shavings on coop floor, add some occasionally, totally changed out once or twice a year, old shavings added to run.

- My runs have semi-deep litter(cold composting), never clean anything out, just add smaller dry materials on occasion, add larger wood chippings as needed.
Aged ramial wood chippings are best IMO.

-Nests are bedded with straw, add some occasionally, change out if needed(broken egg).

There is no odor, unless a fresh cecal has been dropped and when I open the bucket to add more poop.

That's how I keep it 'clean', have not found any reason to clean 'deeper' in 5 years.

I found a couple of 8x12' remnants of vinyl flooring at HD. One piece went on the floor and part way up the walls. The other piece went on the walls, up above the roosts and poop boards. Looking forward to an easy clean out when the time comes!
Also lined the poop boards with vinyl and topped with a good layer of sand. Easy to clean with a kitty litter scoop!
