Chirping
Hi, new member from Upstate NY. My mother always had chickens and ducks when I was young, including hatching eggs out. I am developing my own "homestead" starting with a fixer-upper house and gardens, now starting our chickens. Current flock is 5 buff orpingtons, 2 silver laced Wyandottes, and 1 olive egger. Reaching out to obtain 4 lavender orpingtons as well.
I did my research on what breeds I wanted for our cold, snowy Winters and hoping to have at least 1-2 hens with broody genes. These are for eggs, disposing of food scraps and garden cleanup and fertilizer.
We built our coop on a old hay wagon frame to allow it to be moved for garden cleanup rotation.
