Welcome to BYC/ Michael is certainly right - on this forum we hear daily how folks have had their birds wiped out by predators or even their own dogs & cats.

You don't need to do the entire wire over with hardware cloth, just around the perimeter from ground up about 18" to keep raccoons from snagging body parts thru the wire and biting them off.
