Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

If you have one that weighs less than one pound let me know and I'll figure out an oral dose for you. Also... to get more of the medicated wataer in them, try making a mash with medicated water.

I don't think any of the chicks weigh more than 1 lb. the chick that is showing the symptoms is a 5 week ameraucana puller. She's petite as well.... It's always these darn ameraucanas. Thanks for the help, you're a life saver!

I'm glad your little one is coming thru this.

Oxine is great but it's only Oxine if it's activated.  Unactivated Oxine does nothing much.  Even with a different name for soaking horse hooves.  It's got to be activated.  We have much better luck with Virkon.  I mix it in a hose sprayer and spray everything.  And it's one of the few you can actually use on wood.  Most others won't work on a porous surface.

I used oxine to clean my coop twice its now time for another round I used a container that goes on your hose that gives the amount to use for it. Its listed on the paper the kit comes with.. much eisier to understand than the other ways of mixing... the container has 16oz capacity that's the amount of oxine to use then you use the scoop that states a table spoon.. I just cant remember how many it calls for of the citric activate.. it was awesome I could spray poop off without out getting it on me.
My method is clean out coop use i first rinse and let the poo soak up water while spraying out what readily fall s off. Then I get soap in sprayer and we have bubbles pooring out the other end I then scrub stubborn stuff off perch and floor then we rinse all that out thoroughly. I clean and fix up my oxine keeping myself a safe distance and watch smoke so I can move from its Drift until citric acid dissolves. Then I soak everything! Close it up to keep girls out and then I put down my chips sprinkle DE lightly and open doors .. im happy chickens are happy..

Take your best guess as to what their weights might be and do the math.
I'm gonna guess that your sickest one is about 250 grams so it's

.250 x 20 ÷ 27 = 0.185 ml (round up to 0.2 ml)

Does that help?

Big time! Thank you so much, I was guessing around .55 pounds too. Now, do I need to do the oral drench for all of them, or only the one showing symptoms? The rest will be going on the treatment as well.

The chicks I hatched from my flock was put In within days after I cleaned I waited till they were about due to hatch to clean. I had a hen that had been sick before the first cleaning and after these babys were born another was lining up with same symptoms as other but I put those babies out in coop hours after hatch 4-17 smallest one was 4-21-15. They have a wire mesh divide in coop for their side and a covered run right next to the rest. They had escaped into the big chickens coop through the fence I had forgot to secure. I was suprised to find them in main coop where the sick chicken had been prier to separating her. Despite this one little scare they are doing very well. I gave them organic gmo free chick starter and no vaccines. Growth has been slow, however I dont think that is a bad thing. I cant imagine growing faster helps body fight stress to me that would be a stressor.. anyway take a look..

I usually do just the sickest. -Kathy
