not sure if rooster is doing his job

My silkie rooster ( Buddy) is the sweetest most non aggressive roo I have ever had. He is six or seven months old and has been crowing for a month. Problem is that he doesn't show interest in the girls. They are all laying eggs but I'm sure they are not fertile. One hen is broody but should I keep taking the eggs away. Any suggestions?

He could be young or maybe he is just not interested.. you may need another rooster
