Do chicks chortle? Mostly they have made the normal peep, peep, cheep, cheep, but today I was giving them some greens and one chortled at me. Please tell me these aren't preliminary crows! They are six weeks old, one EE, one Australorp, on Iowa Blue.
 
It's a happy and content sound that chicks make. If you use a heating pad brooder instead of a heat lamp, they make that little trilling sound as they all snuggle in for the night. So cute.

Ah! I'm so glad. They are in the coop and happened to be in the run at the time, but I was feeding them, so that must have triggered the happy sound. It was pretty cute, you're right. I'm so paranoid about ending up with a cockerel that I'm weirded out about everything!
