Observation on Newbies

That is a good idea Rob. I am attaching a link to American Livestock Breed Conservancy http://albc-usa.org/

This organization tracks the number of breeding farms for the various types of chickens and has compiled a list of the ones that are in danger, much like wildlife conservancy.

I have chosen Speckled Sussex for my Standard breed as I love the looks and because I have never seen any around. They are available at hatcheries but they are not common. I have Salmon Faverolles for Bantams. There are some lovely birds and a great resource for identifying them is Feathersite and Henderson's breed chart. Links below. Of course Murray McMurray's online catalogue has some as does Ideal.

I hope you all pick some nice ones. Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds are great chickens, but a nice variety of endangered breeds makes the whole experience so much better.
