My other is as a teaching tool for my children. Its responsibility as well as life cycle and food chain as well as self reliance. The chickens are an all around way of life.

My "other" reason is for hatching eggs and selling chicks.

We are planning to raise chickens in a tiny mountain town in Haiti to help feed the hungry there and to teach a class to young people on how to raise their own backyard chickens to feed their families.

My others are: the satisfaction of sustainable and ethical living. Teaching my kids. Watching them raising chicks naturally, I have broody buffs that hatch cluches for us and raise their own young. Plus they are enthusiastic to help me turn the compost, prepare/clean up the vegetable garden and 'till' the cover crops saving me labour and equipment. They are just the coolest things ever.
