What a great idea! I've just been out side trying to decide how I can make another outdoor (brooder) pen for the youngsters that i don't want to go free ranging yet. I'll have to look around at all the junk. I, er, hubby is making an add on to our main chicken coop out of stocks for the back of a pickup. It's actually going to turn out nice, once it's finished and painted. A lot of innovative people on here. I have to be because money is short. I had just sold some goats and the money is already used up on fencing and feed. It never ends
ok, Sonny is out in his own yard, but not in wedded bliss, Leah was not impressed, his hormones are flowing and he's never had a hen, anyone have a few older dottes, orps or cochins to donate to poor Sonny?
Robin, I've lost all my orp hens but two (Predators. Namely the dog next door). I still have my orp rooster, but haven't decided if I should keep him yet, although he is crossing nice w/the Americaunas, or easter eggers. I have a Dr. appt. in Muskogee next week for my leg again. I'll bring those two hens to you. They are buff and will be a year old this month. They lay almost everyday, which surprised me because I didn't think they layed that much. They are spoiled and tame. Haven't been vaccinated since last year, as I'm not going to do mg, anymore since everyone is telling me it's a waste of money. They will be wormed again, and as of now are nice and healthy. I haven't brought any new chickens in except those from NanaKat and they are chicks, My flock is NPIP. I should be getting my speckled sussex chicks next week. I can't wait. I'm going to post later and see if anyone wants to order again from Welp, so I doen't have to order so many. I'd like to get some more grown hens, but don't know were to get any that I know will be healthy. Anyway, if you and Sonny can wait until next week, the two hens are yours.

What a good idea!!!! I've got a 4x7x7' tall BBQ grill cover that I can do that to! That's awesome, thank you for the idea, I was going to throw mine out! Here's the one I have.
Yes, great idea! - reuse, renew, recycle - is that how it goes?
I gutted an old hose reel box and cut an opening in the front. Then I put a raised wire floor and use it for a nest box.

We worked on Roger's Mother's garden again today. Planted 8 fifty foot rows of potatoes, a row of onions, a row of collards and cabbage. There are rows set aside for tomatoes and okra too. Then we planted button onions in a 4x12 foot raised bed and prepped rows for peas, and peppers. Using a chain saw and hand loppers, the boys cut out small trees in the fence around the garden...let's just say, both of us are dragging. We still need to dig a new water line from the well to the garden.

Chicks under hens got to free range with their moms for a little while when we got home. Wish I had my camera out with us.

Oh! Lucy and Goosey, our wild Canadian geese returned yesterday. They were out by the pasture gates at their feeder waiting on me to bring them some grain and a bucket of water. Then they hung out at the crawdad pond. That is where they were this morning and again when we got home. I'm so glad they survived hunting season again. Hope they build a nest near one of the ponds.

I love reusing stuff. I used an old metal futon frame for nesting racks in my coop. It is so cool to see what people do with stuff.
