I had two coshin hens lay a batch of 11 eggs each. The smaller hen went broody much sooner than the other. During sitting the eggs she laid a few more after the early eggs showed signs of growth. So on May 15 most of the eggs hatched but it left 3 unhatched and not looking like they were ready to hatch. The smaller hen stopped sitting on the three eggs so I placed them under my other broody mama. A week later one of those eggs hatched but the baby was tiny. I placed the baby back with the smaller hen that has the hatchlings, but she rejected the baby and over night she had ripped the skin off its head. I brought the chick inside and doctored him/her up. A couple of days ago the last egg hatched and it is still bigger than the tiny chick.
Is there anything I should look out for with the small chick? It has healed up and been placed into the pen with just hatchlings and it is thriving so far but still much smaller than the rest of the batch.
