We woke up this morning to find our beautiful Lionhead male dead with his mouth/teeth clamped shut around the wire of his cage - he was not showing any signs of any illness. Was acting normal last night.

Any ideas on what could have happened to him?

We are devastated, and have other rabbits so I want to make sure our others are okay.

Oh, man! I'm sorry for your loss.

I have seen this once; I never knew for sure what happened to my rabbit, either. There are a lot of things that can cause a rabbit to die suddenly, from heart attacks and broken necks to internal blockages and parasites. Since we are talking about a Lionhead, seizures come to mind. Seizures, too, can have numerous causes, from epilepsy to exposure to toxins to parasites. I'm sorry, but without knowing for sure what caused your rabbit's death, it's impossible to know whether your other rabbits are at risk.
