Hello! Let me first say that I believe this is the best place to ask this, but not 100% sure. Anyways:
I am trying to find the best breed(s) That do well in an almost feral setting in northern climates. This may seem weird, but I kinda want to experiment with an open coop that I hope they roost in, but I want to avoid interaction with them and with minimal management, almost let them be wild or feral. (Of course I will make sure food and water is available)
What I hope for in a breed:
Broodiness
Brown/Partridge/Well camouflaged color
Cold tolerance
Fast and/or able to fly pretty well
Featherless legs
What is NOT important:
Egglaying ability
Use for meat
Disposition
Size
There are a few breeds that I thought about, but all seem to have a big problem
Easter Egger - Not broody (usually)
Egyptian Fayoumi - Not cold tolerant
Cochin bantam - Has feathered legs and isn’t fast/ able to fly enough
I also have Belgian Bearded D’anvers, but am not exactly sure how well they’d do in extreme cold.
Thank you for reading and responding!
