I went to collect eggs late tonight and noticed one of my one year old Americanas on the roost seemed to have a very wet behind and bloody bulbous soft something was hanging out of her vent. Her behind feathers were very wet and seemed to be dripping liquid like she had peed. I touched the red thing to see if it were an egg and there wasn’t any shell and it was tinier than an egg and soft.

I have noticed the last 3 days that one of the americanas eggs has been a bit bloody on the shell(like smeared blood)and now I at least know which one! But what is going on?

I was in the run earlier and she seemed fine running for treats and bothering me as usual while cleaning up.

Should I have pulled the red thing out?

Any and all ideas welcome

Maybe it was a shell-less egg and she had a hard time passing it?

Maybe you could gently tug at it and see if it is attached to her/ uterus tissue or if it’s something she’s trying to pass like a partial egg mass.

Can you post some pictures? She may have a prolapse. Was the red thing attached, or something she laid? Pictures would be really helpful.
