i am getting some red stars in the spring...i was told that even if you have a rooster that there infertile. like you can incubate them and nothing happens.....is this really true i cant seem to believe it

No they are not infertile, they are like any chicken if they are with a rooster that can fertilize the egg it would be very hatchable. They very likely got it mixed up in what they were saying, probably meant that they would not breed true to color or type.

Thats a common mix up. You can breed your hens and hatch chicks from them. The thing is that you cant breed a Red Star hen to a Red Star roo, or any Sexlink to any Sexlink, and get Sexlink chicks, the sexlinkage only works in the first generation. But you can still hatch chicks from them.
