Just as a follow up, we're still happy with the birds from Meyer and added silkies from there a few months ago. All 12 made it and are doing well, which isn't always the case with bantams/silkies. The brahma and austra whites we tossed in are doing fine as well.

It's still a hatchery and mistakes happen but they do better than many. Out of around 50 Meyer birds, we've lost 1 chick and 1 australorp was clearly mixed with marans (dark eggs/feathered feet). They credited us for the chick and I wasn't necessarily unhappy to get a dark brown layer for the price of an australorp.

I still recommend their rare assortments if you aren't set on a specific breed. Good value. I prefer picking chicks up so a nearby hatchery is better, which is what led me to Meyer initially. No regrets, though. They can be a good option.
