What the heck?! Are my birds just that lazy?! I would love to be able to test them eating mice better, without having to buy mice, or end up letting any loose, though at least we have the cats as backup... Maybe if I didn't feed them for a day, then released a mouse, lol.... 13 hungry birds... one defenseless mouse...

I would feel sorry for it too until remembering what good eggs it will make

I read that Buckeye chickens will actively hunt for mice. A cat with feathers?

I have some Buckeyes and they get in on the action along with the Aussies, Speckled Sussex, Leghorns and Dominique. But I think the most ruthless are the Delaware followed closely by the Aussies. They will hurt each other and you too over a mouse! Strangest thing, none of the roosters will touch a mouse.

Yes...if the cats don't finish their catch my son tosses it to the girls. They fight over it.

Lizards too.

They will also eat offal (from hunted game, even squirrels).

Good protein sources.

My Daughters chickens don't seem to hunt mice at all. Their fox terrier is right at the crack of the door when you go to check eggs and he kills a bunch. My grandson also shots them with his BB gun. She won't put traps or poison out because of the birds.
