I have a large coop, big enough for 12 to 14 birds with an attached covered run of 200 sqft. Around this is a very large enclosed but uncovered pen area for them to free range. The birds do not have their wings clipped and several of them will fly over the fence to roam the rest of the property but will return to the pen area after a time.

My question is that when I open the coop door in the morning and they come out they all gather together in a bunch in a corner of the open pen area where there trees and bushes but not much else. They tend to stay there for some time and then slowly move around the rest of the property. I can see nothing special in this particular corner that would attract their attention, so why do they do this? Is this normal behavior?
