I put the roost over the top of the nest boxes, and use the top of the nest box as the poop board, covered in Sweet PDZ so it is easy to clean and doesn't smell. Once in a while one of the girls sleeps in the nest box, but most of the time they all sleep on the roost on on the poop board.
I see your point but I'm not into cleaning boards, I prefer the old way of using a pitch fork and hauling the straw out to the garden. Having the roosts in front of the nest leaves a small area to clean. The rest of the coop stays pretty clean. (Don't you just love the way programmers think they are smarter than users and refuse to allow you to turn off grammar and spelling@##$%%^^&*)
